Digital Technology

eyeIn the past, a visit to the eye doctor usually meant a routine checkup and a standard treatment plan in the result of being diagnosed with a vision problem or eye disease. Today the emphasis has changed from a reactionary response to a focus on preventative eye care. With the high-tech digital tools and equipment available, we can often spot, identify, and treat vision problems before they become a serious issue. At Primary EyeCare we have gone to great lengths to make sure that we are utilizing the latest technology to ensure the best care for you. To find out more, contact us today at 320-587-4744 or 320-693-9333 and schedule a comprehensive eye exam.

Digital Retinal Screening

Digital Retinal Screening is a process in which your doctor takes high-resolution, digital photographs of the retina, or interior portion of your eye. The color photograph, taken with a specialized retinal camera, provides detailed images of the various structures of the retina and can show abnormalities that may threaten normal vision.

This new technology can greatly aid your doctors ability to accurately diagnose and document many diseases. It also provides a baseline for comparison with previous and future visits, which helps in monitoring disease progression.

Who should have a Digital Retinal Screening?

    • Diabetic patients - for diagnosing and monitoring diabetic retinopathy which can lead to loss of vision
    • Glaucoma patients - for early detection of even the slightest changes to the optic nerve that could lead to the gradual loss of peripheral vision
    • Patients with Macular Degeneration - for diagnosing and monitoring age-related macular degeneration (AMD) for prevention in severe vision loss
    • Patients with other Retinal Diseases and Disorders -for aid in diagnosis, monitoring and treatment
    • Patients with healthy eyes (adults and children) - to establish a healthy baseline which can aid in the detection of any unusual changes or disease in the future

At Primary EyeCare we cant place enough emphasis on preventative care. As a result, Digital Retinal Screening is included in all of our comprehensive eye exams, regardless of your age. Call us today to schedule yours.

High Definition Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT)

High Definition OCT is an 'optical ultrasound' using beams of light to show the different layers of your eyes. These two-dimensional scans are displayed in a color scale where warm colors represent areas of high optical reflectivity, and cool colors represent areas of low reflectivity. The doctor utilizes these scans to help diagnose and guide the treatment for macular edema, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, amongst other eye disorders.

Who Is A Candidate for High Definition OCT?

    • Patients who may be diabetic
    • Patients who have been diagnosed with diabetic macular ademia
    • Patients who may have glaucoma
    • Patients who have been diagnosed with glaucoma
    • Patients with other retinal diseases and disorders

Every month we bring in a certified specialist to perform High Definition OCT procedures. To find out when the next visit will be, contact us at 320-587-4744.

Matrix FDT

The Humphrey Matrix perimeter with FDTMany people are familiar with eye pressure testing for glaucoma. What most people don't realize is that without testing the neurology of your eye, no examination can truly rule out glaucoma. To ensure that we diagnose glaucoma early and accurately we recommend an FDT test. This innovative technology can diagnose glaucoma even when your eye appearance and pressure are normal. The Humphrey FDT with patented WelchAllyn Frequency Doubling Technology isolates a subset of retinal ganglion cell mechanisms in the magnocellular (M-cell) pathway. These M-cells have large diameter fibers and comprise only 3% to 5% of all retinal ganglion cells. The damage of these cells in the disease process makes FDT efficient and effective for the detection of visual field loss.
